Landslides in Wayanad District of Kerala have killed 158 people, and 191 people are still missing, which is causing worry to the administration.
Speaking at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, “Efforts to rescue people in Wayanad are in full force until now. Our land has not seen such a woeful sight before.
Fifty-five of the victims were male and 21 female, and the Wayanad district administration has confirmed the horrifying death toll. Vijayan said that the scenes in the Mundakkai and Chooralmala regions are the worst, adding that they have been “completely devastated.”
Multiple rescue armies, comprising the Army, Navy, and NDRF, have been trying to find survivors day in and day out. From the Defence’s standpoint, it has been managed to evacuate approximately one thousand people from the affected sectors of the army’s units.

Vijayan applauded the efforts of the rescue leaders, saying that 1,592 people had been rescued in the two-day operation. He said there are reports now that 8,000 people are still in 82 camps in the district; 19 of these are pregnant women.
Union Minister George Kurian, who went to the distressed region, said that the Prime Minister is personally following the situation and that the central government is doing everything possible to help the state.
Meanwhile, the search and rescue operation continues; the people of Kerala are still struggling as landslides have become a part of their daily lives, causing huge losses.
