Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday blamed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for blocking the functioning of Parliament. The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs said this in an interview, attributing the recent ruckus to Mr. Gandhi after a heated confrontation between Opposition and NDA members outside Parliament House.
In a related development, the BJP has filed an FIR against Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of attacking two BJP MPs during the protests. Rijiju expressed frustration over the disruptions, which he claimed were due to a recent court ruling in the United States involving an Indian businessman.
“After four days of chaos, we finally agreed to conduct business in the house. Then, out of the blue, a case in a US court ignited tensions, with the Congress party stoking the fire. This was truly unfortunate,” Rijiju said.
He further questioned the rationale behind stalling the Indian Parliament due to legal matters involving expatriates. “There are over 40 million Indians worldwide, many embroiled in various litigations. Should our Parliament be hindered by these situations abroad?” he asked.
While many of the Congress MPs were not there to disrupt the Houses, it seemed that some people, at the behest of Mr. Gandhi himself, who was keen on a particular businessman, caused disturbances. “Most Congress MPs wish to contribute constructively but it seems that Rahul Gandhi’s influence led to today’s chaos,” he said.
Gandhi continued to receive criticism, as Rijiju said that his behavior was unbecoming of a Leader of the Opposition. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has accused Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, citing a case related to the US Department of Justice against the directors of Adani Green. The Adani group has rejected the charge, saying Gautam Adani and his close friends are not accused. Gautam Adani said in response to the continuing attack that adversity makes the group stronger.
