Kolkata trainee doctor murder: Accused undergo lie detector tests

In further news related to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, the main accused, Sanjay Roy, as well as six other people, have been subjected to a polygraph test.

Lia, the lie-detection tests are being conducted by a team of experts for the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Delhi. While Sanjay Roy’s test is being conducted in prison, the remaining six, including the former principal and hospital employees, are being tested in the CBI office.

The victim, the 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor, was found dead in a seminar hall on 9” August. Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer of the Kolkata Police, was arrested the next day.

The CBI, which is investigating this case, has said the polygraph tests of the four hospital employees are to ascertain if they were involved since their statements are contradictory.

Surprisingly, the seminar room also contained the fingerprints of two other first-year PGT doctors on duty at that time.

The horrific event has led to a nationwide sit-down strike and a call for legislation for the protection of healthcare workers. The polygraph tests should produce critical information about the case during the following investigation.
