KTR denies corruption allegations in formula-E race case

BRS working president KT Rama Rao has stoutly maintained that he has “done nothing wrong” in connection with the corruption charges linked to the conduct of the Formula-E race and described the allegations as “politically motivated.”

Telangana High Court on Tuesday dismissed his petition seeking to quash the case related to the conduct of the Formula-E race. KTR in his response, expressed confidence over the outcome that was going to come from the Supreme Court and labeled the case booked against him as frivolous with no substance.

“I hope the Supreme Court would hear my plea and give justice,” he added and said that he had asked ACB over the objections defying the request to allow his legal team to accompany him while questioning. KTR said: “This is a politically motivated case. I have nothing to hide and I have done nothing wrong.” The order also lifted a previous one staying his arrest.

The Telangana ACB is investigating KTR in a money laundering case connected with alleged financial irregularities related to the Formula E race held in Hyderabad in February 2023. On Monday, the ACB summoned KTR to its Hyderabad office in connection with the investigation.

A case against KTR was booked on December 19, for some alleged payments in foreign currency without necessary approvals, pertaining to conducting the Formula E race during the previous regime. ED also initiated an Enforcement Case Information Report under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against KTR and others.

The FIR names KTR as the first accused, senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar as the second accused, and retired bureaucrat BLN Reddy as the third accused. The charges have been filed under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, read with sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to criminal breach of trust and conspiracy.
