LAC situation sensitive; terror infrastructure remains in J&K

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi highlighted security in Jammu and Kashmir and along the India-China border Monday, stating that while the situation at the LAC is “sensitive but stable,” the same is in control in J&K.

The situation at the LOC with Pakistan is “firmly under control,” said General Dwivedi, adding North Kashmir has witnessed an increase in terrorist activities over the past months.

He highlighted that the ceasefire, effective since February 2021, remains in place, as does the terror infrastructure.

After reaching a disengagement agreement late last year, the Army Chief said that both sides had conducted two rounds of verification patrolling in Depsang and Demchock. Grazers also go to their traditional areas.

There are no buffer zones. Some places have been declared temporary moratoriums because we felt that if any side went there, chances of violence would exist,” he said. The General said there is still “a degree of standoff” and a requirement to “sit down and have a broader understanding.”
