A massive landslide blocked the Dharchula-Tawaghat-Lipulekh road in Uttarakhand and, subsequently, it was closed. Fortunately, no one has been injured, said officials.
The landslide occurred at around 11 am near Tawaghat, confirmed District Magistrate Vinod Goswami. Though nobody got injured, the road became impassable after the incident.
“Officials from the Dharchula Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are on-site, actively working to restore access to the Lipulekh route, which connects to the India-China border,” said the District Magistrate. He assured that the road would be reopened shortly.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the landslide may have been triggered by debris from a nearby construction site sliding down onto the main road, according to Goswami.
