LDF complains to EC over food kit distribution in wayanad

The Left party also alleged that the kits were distributed among the voters to influence them in favor of Congress in the by-poll on November 13.

The ruling LDF has complained to the Election Commission of India, seeking an inquiry into the seizure of food kits carrying pictures of Congress leaders at Tholpetty in the district.

The ruling Left party had alleged that the kits were brought to distribute among voters in a bid to bribe them to vote for the Congress in the November 13 by-poll.

“Complaints were lodged to the Central Election Commission and Wayanad District Collector seeking an investigation into the issue,” LDF district convener and former MLA C K Saseendran said on Friday.

The UDF is distributing food kits to voters in Wayanad violating the election rules and norms. The kits carrying the pictures of Congress leaders were distributed in the guise of assistance to the landslide victims,” alleged an LDF leader.

A political controversy broke out in Wayanad ahead of the Lok Sabha by-elections. On Thursday, the flying squad of the Election Commission and police seized some 30 food kits bearing pictures of Congress leaders at Tholpetty in the district.

Sources said the kits, containing tea dust, sugar, rice, and other grocery items and carrying pictures of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, were seized from a flour mill located near the residence of a local Congress leader.
