Seven people were killed while one more died at a hospital when a three-storied commercial building came crashing down in Lucknow on Saturday, the rescue said Saturday night. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief and anguish over the loss of precious lives in the building collapse tragedy, which he described as ‘heartbreaking’.
Pictures relayed by the PTI revealed injured people and rescue teams using diggers and shovels to look for trapped persons buried under slabs of concrete. According to the source, 28 persons were injured during the laying of the incident.
To this date, it is still hard to determine the primary reason behind the collapse, but some of the eyewitnesses saw a crack through one of the pillars in the building. Akash Singh, a worker in the building, said that he shifted his workplace from the top floor due to the monsoon mode of the city and feared for his life. “All of a sudden, the entire building came down on top of it,” he spoke.
Furthermore, according to local sources, the last two trucks offloading goods had earlier crashed into the building, which may have caused the structure to collapse. The government said the structure, widely believed to have been developed approximately four years ago, was under repair when the incident occurred.
Well, electrocution and building accidents are rather frequent in India, especially during the monsoon season, and many old structures simply cannot cope.
