During a robust rally in the Guna constituency of Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, a prominent BJP leader, took a swipe at Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, accusing her of exploiting the ‘Gandhi’ surname for political gains.
Addressing a fervent crowd in Myana town, Yadav criticized Priyanka Gandhi for allegedly adopting a ‘fake’ Gandhi surname. He argued that as per traditional customs, when a daughter gets married, she typically adds her in-laws’ surname to her own. Yadav questioned Priyanka’s claim to the Gandhi surname, stating that she and her family were merely using the revered name to amass votes.
In a video clip shared by Press Trust of India (PTI), Yadav’s remarks during the rally on Saturday resonated with the crowd. He asserted that the entire lineage of the Gandhi family were “fake Gandhis” who sought votes solely on the basis of their surname.
This development follows comments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, another senior BJP leader, during a rally in Rajasthan. Modi accused the Congress party of aiming to seize the hard-earned money and gold of the public. In response, Priyanka Gandhi defended her family’s commitment to the nation, highlighting her mother Sonia Gandhi’s sacrifice of her ‘mangalsutra’ (a traditional necklace worn by married women) for the country.
Chief Minister Yadav also targeted Priyanka for not wearing a ‘mangalsutra’ after marriage. He speculated that the late former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru would be disheartened by the fact that a granddaughter from their family did not embrace this symbol of marital bond.
