Mamata Banerjee defends Kolkata cop amid criticism over doctor’s case

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that Kolkata Police Commissioner Ivan Vegad observed with her and told her. However, the Chief Minister said she did not let Goyal resign or even tender his resignation.

It was the kind of phrase a younger and less media-savvy Palin might have uttered while speaking to the press. In a fair response, Mamata simply told the media, “You are saying anything.”

The police commissioner has been coming to me saying he wants to resign, but I did not allow him to do so, she continued.

A delegation of junior doctors of Kolkata has been protesting for Goyal’s resignation as he has not halted violence at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on 15th August. The trainee doctor was raped and killed at the seminar hall of the hospital on 9th August.

The Chief Minister also rebutted all the allegations over reports that she offered money to the raped girl’s family by stating, ‘Many people are telling me about money’. I have not discussed anything related to money, nor have I given any amount to the victim’s family.

The apex court has ordered the state government to assist the family of the victim, but the latter did not give them money. I continued telling them that money cannot be the option, she continued saying.

She also accused the media and said some channels run to cause unrest over a rape and murder case.

“Some people are attempting to raise their TRP; two to three channels are attempting to bring unrest and are inciting,” she said, further continuing, “Many things are said that are not true; I request for a committee to be formed.”

The Chief Minister also used Languages on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that they staged protest rallies in the state without police permits. She also said that police personnel were injured but did not harm anyone.
