Mamata Banerjee raises concerns of potential riots during Ram Navami in West Bengal

West Bengal’s CM Mamata Banerjee has kindled concerns over the perception of the upcoming RamNavami celebration being marred by riots in the state. When Banerjee addressed the crowds at the rally, she said that the evil powers were working to cause revolts and violence in the country while the others were in favor of getting victory through unlawful ways. She asked the people to keep peace and to celebrate harmoniously.

BJP has charged Banerjee for the discourtesy shown to the Indian culture and the cult of Hindus. They criticized her urging to “keep quiet” on further celebrations of peace and prosperity. They were against her intention to do so about the cultural significance of Ram Navami.

In reaction to Banerjee’s hate speeches, the Trinamool Congress and BJP used the occasion of Ram Navami for organizing processions all over Bengal. This excerpt demonstrates a striking fact about this march – it was everywhere in the state, and there was a large number of men, women, and children who were chanting “Jai Shri Ram” and waving saffron flags and swords. Sheer constant efforts by the police and security forces to eye and avert a deterioration of peace have brewed beautiful peace thus far.

At the recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Trinamool Congress alleges that the Ram Navami celebration caused the disturbances. He underlined the Calcutta High Court ruling that the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) would be permitted to hold a procession within the jurisdiction of Howrah in addition to certain conditions to guarantee that the procession will be completed without any cross-section of the town.
