A man was arrested in Bengaluru for the murder of his girlfriend and a vlogger, Maya Gogoi, whose body he allegedly stored in a service apartment for two days. According to an investigation, the accused, Aarav Hanoy, had killed Gogoi after a heated argument while they were having a troubled relationship.
Police reports state that the couple was having a serious problem, and the crime happened after Gogoi tried to break up with Hanoy. After the murder, Hanoy went north Karnataka and later traveled to many states across India-Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and finally Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh-to evade arrest. He returned to Bengaluru on Friday and was arrested at Devanahalli area near the airport.
Deputy Commissioner of Police D. Devraj described Hanoy’s movements, saying, “After committing the murder, Aarav first went to Raichur in North Karnataka and then made his way to Varanasi. He was arrested upon his return to Bengaluru.”
The investigators, however, claim that Hanoy remained with Gogoi’s body for two days without leaving it. He smoked cigarettes while seated in front of the body on both days. The police made three teams to conduct the manhunt across North Karnataka districts and despatched the other in Kerala.
After leaving the service apartment, Hanoy took a taxi to the Majestic area in Bengaluru’s Central Business District, where he subsequently turned off his phone.
Maya Gogoi stayed with her sister in the HSR Layout of Bengaluru. She had spoken to her sister on Friday when she said she would not return home as there was some office party. She sent an SMS on Saturday saying that she would not be going home that night too, said her sister. The duo had been in a six-month relationship after meeting on social networking sites.
