Man arrested for cruelty against cows in Bengaluru

A 30-year-old man was arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly severing the udders of three cows in the Vinayaka Nagar area. The accused, identified as Syed Nasru, a resident of Champaran district in Bihar, was remanded to judicial custody till January 24.

The police reports cite the influence of alcohol for the incident. Nasru has been booked under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). He works as a helper in a shop that stitches plastic and cloth bags, located just 50 meters from the site of the crime. Authorities have confirmed that no other individuals were involved in the incident.

Fortunately, the cows have been medically treated and are now out of danger. Bengaluru Police had registered a case following the disturbing act after it was reported, and an FIR was filed at Cottonpet police station.

Karna, owner of the cows, lamented, “The cows were tied near our house at night, and in the morning, we found this cruel act. We don’t know who burnt the animal’s skin. We have lodged a complaint with the police. I want justice.”

Injured animals treated
The injured animals were treated at the Chamarajpet veterinary hospital. Anguished over the incident, a spate of leaders from the BJP and different organisations came to the hospital. “The condition is serious as the cows have lost a lot of blood,” said BJP leader and MLC Ravi Kumar. He further called for the government to take stringent action in finding the culprits and their arrest, demanding compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the owner of the cow.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai also condemned the act, termed it inhumane, and criticized the state government for failing to ensure that animal protection was guaranteed.
