Man Refers To Wife As “Second-Hand,” and the court orders him to pay Rs 3 crore in Compensation for domestic abuse

Incidents of cow vigilantism seem to be increasing across several Indian states once more, according to reports.

In a concerning development, two more alleged attacks by so-called ‘gau rakshak’ groups have been reported from Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat in as many days.

The latest victim in MP’s Seoni district is a 35-year-old man who was beaten up severely by a group of 10 individuals on suspicion of cow smuggling.

Meanwhile, in Gujarat, three people from the minority community were targeted and thrashed by armed assailants near Godhra on similar assumptions.

With memories of the brutal killing of Akhlaq and Pehlu Khan, among others, in the past few years still afresh, the recent cases have caused dismay among many.

Experts worry such actions may end up further vitiating the communal atmosphere of the nation and seek firm action from authorities against vigilante violence.

Lawmakers have stressed upholding law and order besides protecting every citizen’s right to earn their livelihood.
