A massive fire broke out on Friday morning, shortly after a gas tanker collided with several vehicles on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway, turning the highway into a spot of mayhem and devastation. The flames of fire engulfed a nearby property in no time, while thick black smoke filled the sky, which was visible almost a kilometre away, as caught in the CCTV camera.
It has killed 11 people so far in the collision and badly affected the area around. Videos showed how smoke was pouring onto the streets, followed by blasts that intensified the situation. Fire spread along almost 300 meters of the highway and led to a long queue of vehicles that were stranded.
Emergency services, including ambulances and fire department units, quickly arrived at the scene, where at least 30 vehicles were reportedly damaged. Confirmation is still being sought regarding the number of passengers in a bus that was directly behind the gas tanker at the time of the incident. Authorities are also assessing the extent of the damage to establishments along the highway.
A chain reaction of collisions, apparently the fire engulfed the wagons immediately and called for immediate firefighting action. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar visited the SMS Hospital, where more than 40 persons are undergoing treatment. Nearly half of the injured are in serious condition, according to Minister Khimsar. A ‘green corridor’ has been ensured for the transportation of the injured from the accident site to the hospital in double-quick time.
