MLAs withdraw support from Haryana Govt ahead of elections

Former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar downplayed the impact of MLAs withdrawing support from the Nayab Singh Saini-led state government, stating that it would not affect the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections. Khattar also claimed that several MLAs were in contact with his government, suggesting a level of support.

Khattar’s remarks came in response to three Independent MLAs who recently withdrew their support from the BJP-led coalition in Haryana. These MLAs declared their backing for the Congress, leaving the Nayab Singh Saini government in a minority in the state assembly.

Addressing reporters, Khattar stated,

“Amid the election season, it won’t make a difference who is aligning with whom. Many MLAs are also in touch with us, and numerous leaders are standing in our support. They should remain loyal to their leaders. Soon, we will find out how many are in contact with us.”

The Independent MLAs—Sombir Sangwan (Dadri), Randhir Singh Gollen (Pundri), and Dharampal Gonder (Nilokheri)—made their announcement during a press conference in Rohtak, alongside Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state Congress chief Udai Bhan.

Khattar, who is the BJP’s candidate for the Karnal Lok Sabha seat, expressed confidence in the party’s victory, proclaiming that the BJP would secure all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana.

With the withdrawal of support from three MLAs, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s government, backed by two other Independents, now falls two seats short of the majority mark in the 90-member House.

Meanwhile, Digvijay Singh Chautala, leader of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), called on Hooda to “bring down the government that has lost the people’s trust.” Chautala also urged Hooda to meet the Governor promptly and apprise him of the situation.

In response, the Congress issued a statement confirming that the three MLAs had already submitted letters to the Governor, formally withdrawing their support for the government.

Hooda expressed his gratitude to the three MLAs for their support, acknowledging that their decision was motivated by public sentiments.
