MNS aims to go solo in Maharashtra assembly elections

In a political development, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), headed by Raj Thackeray, is gearing up for the next Maharashtra Assembly Election alone without any alliance with any other party.

The report revealed that the party plans to contest around 200-225 of the 288 assembly seats, challenging its previous tactics of allying itself with other parties.

According to the report, Raj Thackeray, the chief of the MNS, is upset with the Eknath Shinde-led government over some of the recently launched baby sops like the ‘Ladli Behna’ and ‘Ladla Bhai’ that offer money to women and youth.

This development has come at a time when even the Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has started finalizing candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra.

Thus, in June, a meeting was held in the Sena Bhavan where the party leader, Uddhav Thackeray, demanded all his ‘Sampark Pramukhs’ (heads of communication) across the state to provide an analysis of what could happen if the party goes for the elections either independently or within the framework of the INDIA bloc.

This decision of the MNS to contest independently in the Maharashtra Assembly Election is also understood as an attempt towards its voter base arithmetization with the hope of expanding the party’s operations in Maharashtra. This strategy was informed by the party’s desire to win a greater portion of the electorate since it is placing its bet on several seats.

The upcoming elections in Maharashtra are eagerly anticipated since several players will compete for supremacy in the state. The decision made by the major political party of Maharashtra, MNS, to contest the MMP alone will provide another factor to the voters. It may change the structure of politics in Maharashtra.
