The parents of the rape victim had approached the police and filed a missing complaint. Subsequently, a search operation was mounted. A piece of cloth led to her body in the pond.
The incident snowballed into a political blame game with the Leader of the Opposition in the Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari raising doubts over the post-mortem examination. He said in an online post that he visited the victim’s parents and was informed of alleged irregularities in the post-mortem.
I came to know about the anomalies in the post-mortem procedures, which might be an obstacle later on when the matter would come to trial before a Court. I have assured the bereaved parents that we are there for any help they require, be it legal or for anything else,” he said in an online post.
