Monsoon mayhem grips Mumbai: Heavy rains cause chaos

Since Saturday evening, there has been continuing rainfall in Mumbai and its neighbours, which caused the Andheri subway to shut. The worst-affected parts include Dadar East, Marine Drive, and Lower Parcel. The bad weather also forced the change of the flight from Amritsar to Mumbai, where Flight UK696 was redirected to Ahmedabad due to bad weather at Mumbai airport.

The IMD has forecast moderate to heavy intensity rain in Mumbai, Suburban Raigad, Thane, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts, which have been categorized in the orange alert.

The Mumbai Police also took to social media, notifying people to stay away from the coast and go out only when necessary and giving out the emergency number 100 for any exigency.

Images of the rainfall and wind at Marine Drive were posted on social media platforms to show how terrible the weather was. The railway workshop area in Lower Patel was also submerged, and the few localities of Kurla and Chembur also witnessed problems with waterlogging.

BMC disaster control room is actively tracking the situation, and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has instructed the administration to be alert and spry to aid the people.
