There is often massive destruction in several districts of Himachal Pradesh due to cloudbursts, and the places are indeed ravaged. Some of the accidents have taken place in Shimla, Mandi and Kullu districts and have led to the death of at least two people and more than 53 people missing.
The cloudburst damaged houses, schools, and hospitals, thus affecting the normal life of the affected areas. Government departments have woken up to the event and responded swiftly. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has ordered officials to make all arrangements to help those trapped in the disaster.
Governmental bodies such as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local administration, have been dispatched to the disaster zone. The Indian Army has also been called in for support. Several of the roads and infrastructure are reported ravaged, and the entire region, including Manali, is totally cut off.
At least twenty people go missing in Shimla as a cloudburst hits a hydroelectric power project. The monsoon fury has also affected Uttarakhand, which neighbours Himachal Pradesh; one person was killed and another injured in a cloudburst in Pithoragarh.
Continuing the rescue and relief efforts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that any help needed by the affected people and their families will be provided.
