MP adds emergency ‘Excesses’ chapter to school curriculum

To ensure that the young people are aware of one of the darkest epochs in India, especially the state of Madhya Pradesh, the government has proposed the inclusion of a chapter on the Emergency period in the syllabuses.

In another new chapter, the chief minister said the new chapter will highlight the ‘Mission Gujarat’ and the barbarities of the excess and repression during the 21-month Emergency declared by the Congress government in 1975.

Yadav discusses the need to educate the present generation on the struggles and sacrifices observed by people who fought against these measures back then. Speaking at a function organized by the school at Gongabu in the capital on Democracy Day.

Dahal has claimed that the school curriculum will include a lesson on the circumstances that prevailed in the country, the repression, and the determination of the Loktantra Senanis-democracy fighters to oppose the drastic step adopted by the then-congress government.

The ruling was cheered by incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who recently appreciated Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for referring to the Emergency in the Lower House.

Along with this, the state government has also declared certain facilities and concessions for the Loktantra Senanis, such as concessional charges of stay, non-levy of toll tax, and preferential treatment with the Ayushman health program.

The Madhya Pradesh government hopes that including this chapter as part of the school, syllabi will help enlighten the later generation about the Emergency period and instill in them the significance of protecting the very tenets of democracy.
