The committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 will hold informal discussions with various stakeholders in five states from September 26 to October 1.
Union minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday said that certain people are spreading false propaganda claiming the government will snatch Muslim lands through the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and called for an end to this ‘narrative,’ saying many in the community have supported the bill.
Rijiju said that the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) had received a record number of recommendations for the Waqf Amendment Bill and referred it for examination.
“Some people are running propaganda that the government is snatching the lands of Muslims.
This propaganda should be stopped as many Muslim organizations have supported the bill,” said the Union minister while addressing the media, as ANI reported.
He added that the committee’s efforts form part of a significant national movement to reform the Waqf Act so that these waqf properties can be used for good causes and the community’s betterment.
“The JPC is going through key issues in the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024, such as digitalizing records, rigorous scrutiny, improving legal remedies against encroachment, and decentralizing waqf management,” he added.
