A shocking incident occurred in the women’s compartment of a suburban train running in Mumbai when a naked man boarded the Kalyan-bound AC local train on Monday afternoon at Ghatkopar railway station. Upon being raised by the already onboard women, the man refused to leave the train.
Panic ensued and some passengers shouted “Get down,” while others tapped on the windows to attract the attention of station authorities. The situation continued to worsen until a ticket collector was called to intervene. He managed to remove the man from the compartment and handed him over to the Government Railway Police. Railway police officials later reported that the individual seemed mentally unstable.
This incident comes a week after a recent safety concern at Bandra Terminus, where a stampede injured nine people as passengers rushed to board a train headed for Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. According to the BMC, the stampede was caused by the festive rush that precedes Diwali and underlined the continuing problems in managing crowd safety during peak travel times in the city.
