Napping thief: Lucknow intruder caught dozing in doctor’s home

In a bizarre turn of events, a thief who had broken into a doctor’s locked house in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, ended up falling asleep in the comfort of the air conditioner after completing his criminal act. The incident came to light the next morning when the police discovered the drowsy perpetrator surrounded by the stolen goods.

The break-in occurred at the residence of Dr. Sunil Pandey, situated in Sector-20 of Indira Nagar, under the jurisdiction of the Ghazipur police station. Pandey, who works at Balrampur Hospital, was currently stationed in Varanasi and left his house unoccupied.

According to reports, the thief, identified as Kapil, managed to sneak into the locked house and ransack the premises. He collected the valuable items and then took a break, switching on the air conditioner. However, his apparent intoxication proved to be his downfall, as he ended up dozing off in the cool comfort of the home.

The neighbors, who had become suspicious upon finding Pandey’s door ajar in the morning, peeked inside to discover the house in disarray, with items strewn around. Alarmed by the sight, they immediately alerted the police.

When the authorities arrived, they found the sleeping thief surrounded by the stolen goods, including cash and other valuables. The police arrested Kapil and charged him under IPC section 379 A for the theft.

“The cupboards were broken into. Everything, including cash, was taken. The thief even attempted to steal the washbasin, gas cylinder, and water pump,” said Ghazipur Station House Officer (SHO) Vikas Rai, as quoted by The Times of India.

This bizarre incident serves as a reminder that crime does not always pay, and even the most meticulous thieves can fall victim to their own overconfidence and complacency.
