Newschecker has been informed that the Twitter account of Naseeruddin Shah, which was fake, was called out by many media outlets in February 2021.
A social media post about BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut has been wrongly attributed to the veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, and a fact-checking institution has been able to prove it.
Kangana Ranaut, the actor, has nothing good to say about every actor except Narendra Modi, says veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah.
The phrase was not found in a keyword search that Newschecker conducted, which did not return any credible news reports or documents containing such a statement by the actor.
A smaller search revealed the earliest occurrence of this quote, which was posted by the parody Twitter account, @naseruddin_shah, on February 9, 2021. We have determined that the account is not there anymore.
Newschecker then found out that this exact fake Twitter account of the actor had been exposed by several media outlets in February 2021 (see here, here, and here) for spreading faulty information about the farmers’ protests that took place during January and February 2021.
On Monday, veteran actress Ratna Pathak Shah announced that her husband, the actor Naseeruddin Shah, does not have a Twitter account after an unverified account in his name posted a series of tweets about the ongoing farmer agitation on the microblogging site, as reported by NDTV, dated February 8, 2021.
