Nayab Singh Saini elected BJP legislature party leader in Haryana

Nayab Singh Saini will likely be sworn in as Haryana’s Chief Minister for the second term on Thursday, October 17. A meeting held in Panchkula on Wednesday decided on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs electing Saini as the leader of the legislative party.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav attended the meeting as central observers at Panchkamal, the Panchkula-based Bharatiya Janata Party office. Senior BJP leaders are expected to meet the governor to stake claim in forming a new government.

But the one chosen as the leader of the Haryana BJP legislative party said, “Because of PM Modi’s policies, people of Haryana have chosen the BJP for the third time. We will take forward the good work of PM Modi.”

Welcoming Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the state, he said, “I promise Amit Shah that we will take everyone forward and work for the development of Haryana and Bharat. We will fulfill all the promises made to the people.”

During the elections, the BJP had already signaled that Saini, who replaced Manohar Lal Khattar as chief minister in March and belongs to the Other Backward Classes, would be its choice for the top post if it wins.

It bagged 48 seats in the assembly elections, its best, 11 more than Congress. The JJP was decimated, and the AAP was routed, while INLD could manage only two.

In the Haryana assembly elections, eight out of 10 ministers in the outgoing Saini cabinet faced defeat. Mahipal Dhanda and Mool Chand Sharma were among them, and they had toiled for Panipat Rural and Ballabhgarh seats to secure victories.

Sources said that two ministerial probables from the Jet community – Dhana and Sharma, a senior leader and face from the Brahmin fraternity- will make it to the new government.
