NIA officials’ vehicle attacked in West Bengal amid political controversy

Things have taken a completely different turn politically in West Bengal when a vehicle carting officer of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was attacked in Bhupatinagar, East Midnapore District. During the investigation of the 2022 bomb blast case that killed three people, the NIA officials were supposed to be responsible for it. Mamata Banerjee – the West Bengal Chief Minister, said.

The NIA officers, on the other hand, said they were attacked by the villagers when they tried to be on the ground for investigation.”

Banerjee contested the NIA team had been to the villagers in the early morning hours, the reason for which was none other than the 2022 celebratory incident with crackers. She claimed that the operation was launched by an NIA agent and commented on the scene as being just in time on the eve of the elections. Banerjee claimed that the core objective of the NIA was to back the BJP by spying and inciting chaos. She urged the rest of the world to call out this dirty politics.

The BJP retorted this with its version of how Banerjee’s government is mis-ruling so that lawlessness is taking the reins. The accused had claimed that a crowd of the village babus had hindered the NIA mission to catch hold of two local MLAs and had also beaten the vehicle of the team. The NIA has taken into two people of interest in their investigation of the Bhupatinagar blast, including Balai Charan Maity and Manobrata Jana.

There is more heat than light in the incident. It has increased political tension in West Bengal, raising questions about the investigation, the role of Central agencies, and the rule of law and order in the state.
