Nine Maoists killed in Dantewada encounter reports security forces

Six Maoists were gunned down when a joint team of DRG and CRPF carried out an operation during an encounter in Dantewada of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. It was ascertained to hear that the operation was set to be carried out after receiving information regarding the Maoists’ activities in the zone.

It happened around 1030 am and is still proceeding till the moment I was typing this paper. From the information received from police havan, several weapons have been retrieved from the scene of the incident, some of which include a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR).

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently presided over an inter-state meeting of police chiefs aimed at enhancing security operations against the Left-wing extremists in Chhattisgarh. According to government records, between December 2023 and the end of August, 147 Maoists died in 104 encounters; 723 were arrested, and 622 surrendered.

As a result of the Union government making the method to operate effectively, the forward operating bases (FOBs) have been fast and organized in Maoist-influenced areas. Since December last year, thirty-three front operation bases (FOBs) have been established in different districts to support security activities and projects for developing these areas.

Contemporary Parliament reports pointed out that there has been a decline in the coverage area of Maoist activities. In 2013, the latter amounted to 126 districts in ten states, while in 2024, Maoists operated only in 38 districts in different regions. In addition, it can also be noted that the instances of Maoist violence have allegedly come down by as much as 73 per cent since 2010.
