Noida Airport faces delay; Completion pushed to April 2025

It has been revealed that the Noida International Airport project, which has been much anticipated, will take an extra seven months to complete the project. The Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), the implementing agency, has apprised the Uttar Pradesh government about new dates and project completion, said to be earlier on September 29, 2024, but delayed and set for April 2025.

It is believed that officials’ fault is majorly in the slow progress of the terminal building construction; meanwhile, the concessionaire, Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), claims that the delay has resulted from the delay in purchasing steel imported from Singapore.

The YIAPL said extensive work has been done for the runway, the passenger terminal, and the control tower and added that the company is striving to complete the operational project by April 2025.

The NIAL has, however, come out clearly to display its disagreement with the unilateral decision by YIAPL to extend the completion deadline. Shared this earlier; being a chief executive officer, we also served a notice. We raised objections over the construction start of other portions, including the airport hotel by Roseate Hotels and the cargo terminal by AISATS, without layout approval by the government of NIAL and the Yamuna Expressway industrial development authority.

Originally, the commission agreement between NIAL and YIAPL provided a 91-day grace period, after which the government agency was free to fine the company ₹10 lakh per day for every delayed day.

Therefore, once implemented, the Key Project of Noida International Airport is believed to boost the region’s economic development by offering connectivity, air cargo, and logistics centers. Even in this regard, authorities are determined to see that the project gets completed to meet the planned goals and to ensure that the commercial operations start as planned.
