The police have arrested the director of a school in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida for allegedly installing a spy camera in the teachers’ washroom. The alleged invasive act allowed the director to monitor live footage of individuals who entered the restroom through mobile phones and computers.
The incident came to light when a teacher at Learn with Fun in Sector 70 found something suspicious about the bulb holder in the washroom on December 10. A faint light emitted from the socket raised her suspicion. On closely looking, she found that there was a hidden spy camera installed inside the bulb holder. The teacher immediately informed the security guard, who confirmed the presence of the device.
After this, the teacher complained about the same to the school director Navnish Sahay and co-ordinator Parul, both denying the accusation. Following that, as no action was taken, she filed a formal complaint. Action was subsequently initiated, based on which Noida Central Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shakti Mohan Awasthi led the investigation.
During the investigation, it was confirmed that the spy camera was functional and could stream live footage without recording it. The police then arrested director Navnish Sahay.
Sahay, during interrogation, confessed to the crime and said that he had bought the spy camera online for ₹22,000 (approximately $259). The device was designed in such a way that it could be fitted inside a bulb holder and could hardly be detected unless carefully looked for. According to reports, the camera was used to transmit live footage from the teachers’ washroom directly to his personal devices.
The teacher also complained that a similar incident had happened earlier when another spy camera was found in the toilet of the school. That camera was also reported to co-ordinator Parul, but no action was taken at that time.
Running the school for only six months, Sahay was arrested by the Phase 3 police, Ghaziabad. The operation of the school has been kept in abeyance in view of the investigation.
