A case of molestation has been reported in a hospital in Bengal, adding a new twist to the crisis faced by the state government and the police after the barbarous rape and murder of a woman at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. On Saturday, a nurse at the Ilambazar Health Center in Birbhum said she was molested by a patient on duty at weekends.
The accused, who had been admitted to the facility for treatment, complained of touching the nurse inappropriately while she had been administering saline solution to him. The nurse said that the patient approached her in the emergency department and sexually harassed her, adding that family members of the patient were present during the incident but did not intervene.
”The male patient offended me and grabbed me indecently, all because I was under the doctor’s instructions to calm him down and he also verbally assaulted me,”
The nurse said this in a rather sickened manner, which caused tension to rise at the health center. The hospital authority, after reporting the matter to the police, arrested the culprit.
This comes shortly after the cruel death of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College on 9th August, which has been receiving a lot of attention from people demanding justice. The BJP has accused the Trinamool Congress-led government and the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of being inactive in both incidences. Other issues that have also been raised include the accessibility of the accused to this hospital, wherein there are claims that he was organizing services for the patients in exchange for cash.
