Omar Abdullah leads in early J&K poll counts

Ganderbal: Omar Abdullah, vice president of the National Conference (NC) and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, registered massive leads in Ganderbal and emerged victorious from Budgam, where he contested assembly elections in the Union Territory.

According to the data of the Election Commission, till 3 pm today, Omar Abdullah was leading by more than 18,000 votes in Budgam and by more than 10,000 votes in Ganderbal.

Later, while interacting with the media, Farooq Abdullah announced that Omar would be the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

He entered politics in 1998 by winning the Lok Sabha elections for the Srinagar constituency. He was re-elected in 1999 and 2004.

He first joined the Ganderbal in 2008, and in 2009, he became the Chief Minister of the Union Territory. After his tenure as Chief Minister, Omar also won the seat of Assembly Beerwah.
