Srinagar:
Vice- President of the National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah cited that the pre-poll alliance with Congress for the JK assembly polls was not a cup of tea for the party as they had to ‘compromise’ several seats, which it believed could have been won.
Speaking at the NC headquarters in Nawa-i-Subah, Mr. Abdullah said that the fight for the’recovery of rights’ of the people of Jammu and Kashmir is a fight that belongs to every citizen.
This is not only our struggle, but of the entire Jammu and Kashmir.” If we have to correct the injustices committed on us, it will not only serve our purpose but every single individual of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This fight is for Jammu and Kashmir; fight for it and let us fight it together.
That is why we allied with the Congress, even though it was painful for us (because) it meant leaving those constituencies where only we could give a fight to the PDP,” the NC vice president said.
However, he said that the alliance with the Congress was inevitable in order to check the growth of the BJP.
“In many constituencies, as in the lowlands of Jammu province, Poonch, and Rajouri, the Congress and we can fight those powers together; that is why we provided some seats to the Congress from the NC’s share,” he said.
Mr. Abdullah said the first effect of the pre-poll adjustment With regard to the pre-poll adjustment, it was witnessed when the erstwhile Congress MP and chief of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, Ghulam Nabi Azad, declared that he would not canvass for his party in the polls.
