Opposition protests as new Lok Sabha MPs take oath

The leaders of the protest bloc INDIA opposite to the newly elected 18th Lok Sabha members held copies of the Constitution on Monday as they took the oath.

This protest included the captains of the main opposition coalition, including Congress presidential candidate Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi, the president of Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, and other leaders.

At the same time, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi also took an oath of the 18th Lok Sabha and will work as the leader of the house. The rest of the Union Ministers and the new Members of Parliament are sworn in today with the pro tempore Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab administering the oath.

We are not racing against some other community,” – said BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, who was elected as a pro-tem speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha, after he took the oath earlier in the day with President Droupadi Murmu presiding over the ceremony.

However, the Congress and INDIA bloc panel members boycotted the oathtaking and mobilization rite, saying they were dissatisfied with Mahtab being appointed instead of eight-time Congress MP K Suresh.

The first sitting of the 18th Lok Sabha commenced today. It would turn out to be very eventful, with the opposition all geared up to oppose the BJP-led NDA government on various issues, including the election to the office of the Speaker on June 26, alleged leakage of question papers of NEET-UG and UGC-NET, and election of the pro-tem Speaker.

Thus, the opposition also plans to challenge the government regarding emerging topics like price increases, food inflation, deaths due to heat, and recent “anomalies” in the exam.

The 18th Lok Sabha of India will open on June 17, 2019, and run till July 3, 2019, while the Speaker of the Lok Sabha election will be held on June 26, 2019.

They have spoken to the media about upcoming events in the country: President Murmu will speak to a joint session of both chambers on June 27, and only shortly will a new Leader of the Opposition be elected in the Lok Sabha for the first time in ten years.
