A woman who goes by the name Sonal Pateria has recently discussed her terrible experiences of sexual harassment in Noida and Delhi NCR on X that rapidly went viral; the woman shared three cases of harassment that occurred in the course of a month.
The first incident was reported close to the DLF Mall in Sector 18 when a man on a motorcycle riding beside her shouted, ‘Kya rate legi?’ meaning, ‘What is your rate?’ In another event, when she was walking towards the Sector-18 Metro station, another man also made an Asspinisation of her.
The closeness of the attacker made Pateria call a friend to come and accompany her until she got home. The third incident took place when a man at Rajeev Chowk Metro station insisted on getting her phone number.
Pateria sought to clarify that there is no pattern to her harassment, whether she is dressed provocatively or not, or whether it is early in the morning or late at night, but it is the fear that women have. The Noida Police have since initiated an investigation of the mall incident and the attempts to view the CCTV recordings.
Pateria is very active and some of the posts that he has made have received many views, which elicited numerous responses. Most of the users called for support and emphasized the necessity for new normalcy to reduce sexual violence against women in society.
