Owaisi alleges that BJP received Rs 150 crore before the telecom policy change.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has insinuated that the Modi government may have unduly favored a company in amending telecom norms after receiving electoral bonds from it. In a social media post, the Hyderabad MP alleged the BJP received Rs 150 crore from a company before changing its telecom policy without specifying which firm. He questioned if this constituted a “scam” like 2G.
Owaisi tagged a news report claiming donations were made by the Bharti Group. He added that voters will have to choose a PM committed to marginalized voices or one beholden to corporate money alone.
His remarks come at a time when the Supreme Court has questioned the transparency of electoral bonds that allow anonymous political donations. A bench flagged the scheme violates rights to information and free speech.
While telecom reforms aim promoting ease of doing business, Owaisi has sought to generate nepotism charges through his claims. However, absent corroborative evidence, they remain allegations at this stage.
Transparency in policymaking and its oversight remain crucial as the telco sector evolves on factors like spectrum pricing and 5G rollouts. The debate around undue influence will likely continue.
