AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday claimed the Centre has brought the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, to abolish the Waqf Board permanently.
He said the Centre is keen to organize the NDA meeting as people feel the CM’s discharge is not for livelihood.
He said the Centre has brought the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which will eradicate the Waqf Board forever.
According to the legal provisions, Owaisi explained the contents of the Waqf Act of 1995 and said that it works on the principle of ‘Waqf by the user,’ wherein if a place is used for prayers or functions as an orphanage or a graveyard, it gets Waqf status, something the government wants to tear apart.
“There are many endowment boards in Hinduism where places become religious by usage. In Uttar Pradesh, out of 1,21,000 registered properties under the Sunni Waqf Board, 1,12,000 are Waqf by user.
Once Waqf by the user is abolished, what law will they implement?” asked Owaisi.
He also claimed the draft of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill argues that a practicing Muslim of five years can donate to the Waqf Board.
It does not, however, define what it means by “practicing Muslim,” he added.
