In a dramatic turn of events, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up Bharatiya Janata Party MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput today to inquire about their well-being; both sustained head injuries in an alleged scuffle between the opposition and the ruling party members in the Parliament.
The incident occurred in the wake of controversy surrounding Rahul Gandhi, who alleged that he was not allowed to enter the Parliament and was accused of pushing another MP. The tension mounted as both the NDA and the INDIA bloc staged protests, leading to a scuffle in which the two BJP MPs were injured.
BJP MP Pratap Sarangi said he was injured when he was pushed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. “I was standing on the stairs when another MP fell on me. Rahul Gandhi pushed a member of Parliament who then fell on me, causing my injury,” Sarangi told reporters.
Emergency services took Sarangi to the hospital for treatment, while both MPs were later sent to Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. According to Medical Superintendent Ajay Shukla, the two leaders sustained head injuries and needed to be kept in the ICU. While Sarangi was bleeding profusely and sustained a deep gash that required stitches, Mukesh Rajput fell unconscious but was later reported conscious and dizzy.
Responding to the charges, Rahul Gandhi said that he was also pushed and threatened by BJP MPs as he tried to go inside Parliament. “I was trying to go inside, but BJP MPs were trying to stop me. This has happened. Yes, Mallikarjun Kharge was also pushed,” he asserted.
Congress MP KC Venugopal slammed the BJP’s act and said that the MPs of the party had done something which was very shameful. He said it was a responsibility that should be taken up especially when Union Minister Amit Shah made derogatory remarks related to late Babasaheb Ambedkar.
The BJP will also lodge a complaint against Rahul Gandhi and other Congress MPs on the grounds of physical assault on their party members in response to the scuffle. The incident reflects the increasing animosity in Parliament as both sides work through a charged political environment.
