Pawan Kalyan seeks Deputy CM post, cabinet berths in Andhra

As the leader of the opposition party, Jana Sena, which contested in recent elections, the Kollywood actor turned politician, and MLA Pawan Kalyan is likely to stake a claim for the Deputy CM position in the new Andhra Pradesh cabinet, it is learnt.

Besides, he is supposed to recommend the creation of five cabinet berths for his party as N. Chandrababu Naidu of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is all set to become the next Chief Minister tomorrow.

This is something important that the MLAs of the Jana Sena party on Tuesday chose Pawan Kalyan as their leader on the floor of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

The decision was taken before laying the house business in which the NDA legislators could nominate and pass a vote of confidence on Chandrababu Naidu. Tenali legislator N. Manohar mooted the name of Pawan Kalyan as the floor leader at the legislative assembly, seconded with unanimous consent by members present, sources revealed.

The victory of Pawan Kalyan in the MLA elections has encouraged the demand of the party and the population, the latter having to face the loss with Vanga Geetha of the YSR Congress Party with more than 70 thousand votes behind.

Jana Sena has twenty-one members in the 175-member SE Asian state assembly. The incumbent NDA alliance TDP-Jana Sena-BJP won overwhelmingly, commanding the Rs claim of 164 of the 175 assembly seats- TDP-One Hundred Thirty-Five Jan Sena 21 and BJP Eight.

Given that the Andhra Pradesh Assembly session is scheduled to begin on June 17 with the inaugural session of the Assembly that comprises the MLAs’ swearing-in ceremony and the election of the Speaker on June, 18 therefore, there will be conveying of interest among the NDA partners regarding power-sharing.

Owing to the varied election results of the coalition partners, it is anticipated that out of 25 cabinet seats with the Deputy CM post, the TDP shall take the majority with 20 posts, three for Jana Sena and the remaining two for the BJP.

As for the presently formed Pawan Kalyan party becoming a force to reckon with in Andhra Pradesh politics, particularly after the recent elections, the process of bargaining for the ministries and Deputy Chief Minister’s post that will unfold while forming the new government in the state will be an interesting watching.
