At a campaign rally in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, Modi said, “Whether they are Hindus or Muslims, Sikhs or Christians or Buddhists, all human beings should have one law for all.” The Prime Minister criticized the Congress Party for being regressive and opposing the idea of the UCC, which aims to subsume the various customary laws applicable to Muslims and govern matters such as marriage, divorce, succession, and maintenance.
However, SAD supports the Uniform Civil Code announced by the BJP. “Congress supports Sharia law under the pretext of Muslim Personal Law,” accused the Prime Minister.
Modi also decided to go petty on the Congress party over some “derogatory comments” about the BJP’s Mandi constituency candidate, Kangana Ranaut, calling it an insult to the people of Mandi, the BJP’s Choti Kashi, the state of Himachal, and the daughters of Himachal.
The Prime Minister vowed to look into the figures by the Congress government in the state, which suggest that while some 80 percent of the funds from the central aid meant for the victims of floods that hit Himachal Pradesh last year reached the intended recipients, the remaining 20 percent was distributed selectively once the BJP is back in power.
The BJP has in the past accused that the Centre was made to release ₹1,762 crore for the flood victims apart from the amount for the construction of 2,300 roads and 11,000 houses, as claimed by the BJP but accused that the Congress government misused the money for personal gains.
