PM Modi celebrates Maha Kumbh 2025 as a unifying festival

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Maha Kumbh 2025 as the “Maha Yagya of Unity” in a blog post released on Thursday, emphasizing the significance of the festival in unifying people. The 45-day spectacle in Prayagraj witnessed the collective faith of 1.4 billion Indians, creating an avalanche of a sense of unity.

In his X post, Modi shared intriguing photos of the grand spectacle and shared sentiments about the collective awakening of national awareness. “The Maha Kumbh is over. the Maha Yagya of unity is over. When the consciousness of a nation wakes up, shaking off centuries of servitude, it finds expression in awe-inspiring moments, as has happened in Prayagraj from January 13,” he posted.

The Prime Minister understood the challenges in organizing such a large event and expressed regret at any shortcoming in serving the devotees. “I know that it is no easy task to take care of such a large gathering. I seek the forgiveness of Mother Ganga, Mother Yamuna, and Mother Saraswati for any deficiency on our part in worship. If there was any lack of service to the devotees, who are my very icons of God, I also seek public forgiveness,” Modi announced.

Recalling his trip to the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya last year, Modi emphasized the spiritual importance of the event. “While speaking about the Praan Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, I defined patriotism in terms of devotion. The Maha Kumbh saw the gathering of gods and goddesses, saints, children, women, youth, and elderly people—an awakening of the country’s consciousness,” he said.

The Prime Minister illustrated that the recent Maha Kumbh was a festival of unity, whereby the religion of 1.4 billion folks united under the umbrella of this one festival. He asserted new India, the one that is proud of its heritage, moving ahead with renewed vigor.

“Hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life and various walks of life congregated in this Maha Kumbh. This unforgettable spectacle of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ was a wonderful celebration of self-confidence for crores of Indians,” he added.

The Maha Kumbh 2025, which ended on the sacred day of Maha Shivratri on February 26, welcomed more than one crore devotees on the last day, taking the overall figure to a staggering 66.30 crore, as the huge event came to a successful end with one of the world’s largest religious fairs.

Mahakumbh formally started on 13 January with the first Amrit Snan on Paush Purnima, and big bathing dates included Makar Sankranti (14 January), Mauni Amavasya (29 January), Basant Panchami (3 February), and Maghi Purnima (12 February).
