In the context of Bangladesh’s evolving political scenario, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called a CCS meeting on Monday. The participants were the top leadership of the Indian government: the Union Home Minister, Defence Minister, External Affairs Minister, and chiefs of Indian policing offices of intelligence.
The meeting occurred as Bangladeshi Premier Sheikh Hasina resigned and left Bangladesh. Hasina left after a massive protest broke out mid-July over a quota system that gave Bangladesh civil service jobs to relatives of the heroes of the 1971 liberation war. The protests gradually turned into demands for Hasina’s deposition.
As Hasina left the tiny airplanes, officials of the Bangladeshi military said that they could help with the accession of the interim government. The army chief has outlined that the military will be responsible for managing the political-instigated law and order situation since protests against the Hasina government have led to more than 100 deaths.
The latest update is that India has permanently stopped all train services to Bangladesh due to unrest. This is the situation in the neighbouring country, the Indian government is following the events closely to determine the adequate response in this situation.
