Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attacked the then Congress-led UPA government during a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the “Glorious Journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India,” referring to the nationwide power outage in 2012. He said that his government is committed to the aim of “One Nation, One Grid” in order to ensure continuous power supply from one end of the country to another.
The Prime Minister recalled the condition of the previous government: “We saw India being defamed in the world through headlines.” He said some parts of the country were gleaming with power, while some were still plunged into darkness, and that too, formed the contrast. “That is why, with the mantra of unity and upholding the sense of the Constitution, we fulfilled One Nation One Grid. Today, there is uninterrupted power supply in all corners of India,” he said.
Modi also sought to underline the transformative role of the Digital India initiative as a democratizing force of technology. “The times have changed. We will not allow a chasm between the haves and have-nots in the digital space. The success of Digital India lies in our endeavor to make technology available to everyone,” he said.
The Prime Minister termed the 75-year journey of the Constitution an extraordinary achievement. He paid his obeisance to the drafters of the Constitution and thanked the people of India for accepting this new system. “For all of us, for all citizens, and democracy-loving people all over the world, this is a moment of great pride,” he said.
The two-day debate to commemorate 75 years of the Indian Constitution began in Lok Sabha on Friday, with the members underlining the significance of the occasion in the country’s democratic journey.
