Late line of Muhammad Yunus in a recent interview on India-Bangladesh relation has not sat well with New Delhi.
NEW DELHI: Contrary to the earlier reports that stated that Modi would meet Muhammad Yunus, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly next week, highly placed sources said so on Wednesday.
At the beginning of this month, the Bangladesh side formally proposed a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the General Assembly; both leaders are planning to attend. Dhaka wanted the meeting, believing that such a meeting would diffuse the issues that have caused tensions in the relations between the two countries after the overthrow of the Sheikh Hasina government, the people who requested anonymity said.
The people in the picture stated that such a meeting is nowhere in the Indian side’s plan. Besides, Modi is not going to have leisure time during his 3-day stay in the US as he has to attend the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, on September 21 and the Summit of the Future at the UNGA on September 23.
