PM Modi has applauded food delivery platform Zomato’s founder Deepinder Goyal for his inspirational entrepreneurial journey. In a tweet, PM Modi responded to a viral video where Goyal recounted facing scepticism from his father about starting up, given their humble family background.
The video highlights how when Goyal shared his plans to launch Zomato in 2008, his father questioned, “Do you know who your father is?” implying their limitations. However, Goyal stressed that government initiatives have enabled others like him to build from small towns.
PM Modi lauded Goyal for rising above challenges. In today’s India, one’s surname doesn’t determine success; hard work alone counts. The IIT Delhi alumni’s story inspires many youths, he added.
Thanking the PM for his encouraging words, Goyal said they would motivate greater efforts. Since Zomato’s inception, Goyal has spearheaded its transformation into a mega food delivery platform serving over 1,000 Indian cities. He has also been a judge on the entrepreneurial reality show Shark Tank India 2.
Goyal’s achievements strongly suggest that aspirations can outweigh stereotypes. His journey indicates the potential of startups to uplift lives, which the government seeks to unlock by facilitating a conducive environment.
