PM Modi set for a third term after NDA sweeps elections

A new picture has emerged: Narendra Modi is likely to be officially appointed the Prime Minister of India today for the third time running after followers nominated him in a meeting held in the capital city yesterday.

The next oath ceremony will feature the presence of the leaders of the states of South Asia, which will continue to indicate the fulfillment of the government’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh and Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka have agreed to the invitation, and other leaders will attend the event. Hasina is expected to arrive in New Delhi a day before the event. This was one of the first reactions supporting Modi’s electoral success: the Bangladeshi leader has proved to be a bosom friend of Narendra Modi, the leader of the neighboring nuclear power.

One publication observes that the Prime Ministers of Nepal, Bhutan, and Mauritius have also been invited. This is similar to the lists of guests of PM Modi’s earlier oath ceremonies, which hailed from the SAARC (2014) regional grouping and the BIMSTEC (2019) grouping.

Indian election: BJP wins 293 seats in India’s parliamentary Lok Sabha for the NDA giving the alliance a clear majority out of 543. For instance, although the BJP was able to secure only 240 seats – which is 45 short of the 291-seat magic number – its partners like TDP and JD-U ensured that the combined tally of the NDA comfortably crossed the halfway mark during a heated session at the Prime Minister’s official residence yesterday.

This lad lists regional giants supporting him in continuing his incumbency as PM of the biggest democracy for another year. His party’s performance in the recent polls and the forthcoming oath-taking ceremony will affirm his stature in a subcontinental and global context.
