Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his first-ever comments on the sexual assault allegations against prime Minister Narendra Modi, has addressed the sexual assault allegations against suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna, emphasizing a “zero tolerance” approach towards such individuals.
He questioned the timing of the video releases and criticized the Congress party. PM Modi emphasized that it is the responsibility of the respective state governments to take action in cases of law and order issues.
PM Modi firmly stated,
“As far as Modi is concerned, as far as BJP is concerned, as far as our Constitution is concerned, I am of the clear view that there should be zero tolerance for such people. Stringent punishment should be given using all the legal options available.”
Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda and a Lok Sabha candidate from Hassan, has faced allegations of sexually assaulting several women. Multiple videos of the incidents surfaced after the first phase of polling in the state. Prajwal’s father, H D Revanna, the Holenarasipur MLA, was also accused and arrested on charges of kidnapping one of the victims.
While Prajwal has been suspended from the party pending conviction, he remains absconding and allegedly in Germany on a diplomatic passport. His father maintains their innocence and describes the allegations as politically motivated. JD(S) and BJP have formed an alliance in the state for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
PM Modi highlighted the significant number of videos against Revanna and suggested that they were accumulated when JD(S) was in an alliance with Congress. He called the release of the videos suspicious and emphasized the need to bring the accused back to India to face the charges and consequences of his actions. The PM concluded that no culprit should be spared, and strict action should be taken.
