PM Modi’s Moscow visit strengthens India-Russia ties

Decoding it for you, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started a two-day diplomatic tour to Moscow, leaving out a five-year gap from Russia’s visit. After arriving, the Prime Minister was welcomed by their Russian counterpart and stated his preparedness to scrutinize every facet of India and Russia’s ‘special and privileged strategic partnership’, especially in the fields of energy, security, trade ties, and people-to-people contacts.

India’s PM Modi reassured that India will only be the ‘helping hand in a stable region’ as both countries focused on exposing their friendly and strategic cooperation. The scheduled events in Moscow are the private dinner with President Putin, meeting the Indian community in Russia, and paying homage at the Russian War Memorial, Tomb of Unknown Soldier.

In light of this, PM Modi will proceed to Moscow visit and later Austria, where he will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit in 41 years. The Prime Minister said he looks forward to meeting with the Indian community in both Russia and Austria as he aims to strengthen India’s international relationships.

This visit takes place against the backdrop of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, which has brought India-Russia relations. However, the positions of India have been more balanced, stressing the diplomatic solution to the conflict.
