PM Modi’s social media dominance: 100M followers and counting

The political leader with the most impact in the digital world is the current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. He has managed to accumulate 100 million followers on platform X, making him only second to Obama in the list of world politicians who are followed on social media. However, he is outrunning Obama as he is in power now.

It’s also noteworthy that the Prime Minister’s social activity does not end on platform X. Even on YouTube, he has 24 million plus subscribers, and on his Instagram account, he is followed by more than 91 million. This social media influence is much bigger compared to that of his political contenders in India, most of whose followers do not even cross 100 million.

Modi is probably the biggest name on social media. His presence goes beyond the political domain, outcompeting celebrities like cricket player Virat Kohli, Neymar Jr. (a footballer), and LeBron James, the famous basketball player in terms of followers – 64. 1 million; 63. 6 million and 52. 9 million, respectively.

Therefore, the Prime Minister’s followership can be seen to dwarf that of even global celebrities, with approximately 95. 3 million followers as the singer Taylor Swift has or 83. 1 million followers like the singer Lady Gaga or even 75. 2 million followers like the reality TV star Kim Kardashian.

The Prime Minister joined the two main social media bandwagons in 2009, and over the last three years, Followers on X has seen its user base grow by almost 30 million.

The above-mentioned extensive interaction has made it possible for Modi to communicate with different groups, starting with the party workers, followers, compatriots, ministers in his cabinet, and ordinary citizens.

Pointing at this achievement, the Prime Minister said,

“A hundred million on X! Happy being here on this lively platform and thankful for the discourse, debate, ideas, people’s blessings, critique, and more. The next hundred million are awaited with a similar level of zest. ”

This particular digital supremacy asserts the Prime Minister’s considerable social media reach in sharing his speech, communicating with his constituents, and asserting his place in global politics. In the age of India becoming increasingly digitalised, Modi’s social media savvy and rapport with the population are hard to debate.
