AAP MLAs meet jailed Kejriwal’s wife amid BJP’s poaching charges.
Aam Aadmi Party legislators on Tuesday met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, over the “prevailing political situation.” This comes after the BJP alleged an internal power tussle within AAP following Kejriwal’s arrest in the excise policy case. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva claimed Sunita was indirectly trying to take over the party.
The meeting was called two days after Sunita’s maiden public address at an Opposition rally, in which she declared her husband would not remain behind bars for long.
Her remarks followed Kejriwal naming AAP ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj in court on Monday. This has seemingly shaken the ruling party.
The BJP contends that more AAP leaders will face heat as the excise case inquiry progresses. However, the AAP has dismissed these as politically motivated actions.
Earlier in the assembly, AAP MLA Rituraj Jha accused the BJP of attempting to destabilize the Delhi government by offering him a ministerial post in exchange for switching parties along with 10 other MLAs.
With Kejriwal in custody until April 15 and the AAP facing the BJP’s poaching allegations, the ruling party legislators sought to boost cohesion through the meeting with Sunita.
They maintained that the ongoing arrests were politically motivated to crush AAP ahead of general elections. But the BJP says all involved in the excise case will face consequences as the investigation widens.
